The Permanent Collection

The new $33 million Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State College is home to 7,500 works of art by more than 600 artists. The museum's collection, which spans the late 19th century through today, includes the world's largest collection of works by acclaimed watercolorist Charles E. Burchfield (1893-1967), as well as the artist's diaries and journals, which provide unique insight into his style and process. In addition to Burchfield, artists represented in the museum's collection include Elbert Hubbard, Gustav Stickley, Cindy Sherman, Robert Mangold, Les Krims, Frank Lloyd Wright, Wendle Castle, Al Paley, Bruce Kurland, Edwin Dickinson, Susan Rothenberg, Joseph Piccillo, Robert Longo, Alberto Rey, and Paul Sharits among others.
