The Mission of the Burchfield Penney's Docents

Our mission as docents is to be the bridge between the viewer and the artwork, igniting inquiry and curiosity within an atmosphere of respect and open dialogue. Docents are ambassadors for the Burchfield Penney Art Center who inspire the viewer to want to know more and to experience more. Our commitment to our guests is to provide an environment that fosters a heightened personal experience with works of art.

    Docent Activities

Trips for the Burchfield Penney and Albright-Knox docents are organized several times a year. Our next trip will be to Cleveland, Ohio this summer. Please call (716) 878-3156 for more information.

    Docent Library

The Docent Library is a circulating library housed in the Edna M. Lindemann Study Center. It contains a number of resources for docents related to exhibitions and artists as well as art education publications. Open during gallery hours.

    Docent Book Club

Founded in the spring of 2011, the Burchfield Penney Book Club meets every first Sunday of the month at 3:00. The Book Club reads and discusses books of a selected theme, which have included the works read by Charles E. Burchfield.

We encourage staff, docents, Buffalo State students, faculty and staff and the general public to participate. The only prerequisite is an interest in reading these texts and a willingness to join in a group discussion during monthly meetings.

For more information or to RSVP, please contact Mary Kozub, Museum Education and Tour Manager, at 716-878-3156 or by email.
