Harold L. Cohen

Harold L. Cohen is a Buffalo-based visual artist and educator. He was born in Brooklyn in 1925 and trained in the Bauhaus tradition, attending Pratt Institute and Northwestern University before earning a BA from the Institute of Design in Chicago. Cohen served as chairman of the Product Design Department at the Institute of Design (1949-1955) and as partner with Davis Pratt in Chicago (1950-55). He was the chairman of Southern Illinois University’s influential Department of Design from 1955 to 1963 and the dean of UB’s School of Architecture and Environmental Design from 1974 to 1984.
