Olivia Kim is a sculptor who makes ceramic, bronze, and cast glass figurative work, paying particular attention to the neuro-muscular movements of the human body.
Kim was born in the Philippines, and at age four moved with her family to Rochester,N.Y. Her early interests included dance, the visual arts, musical theater, printmaking, and vocal music. She received her BFA in ceramics in 2001 from the School of Art and Design at Alfred University, where she graduated cum laude. Her mentors at the school included Wayne Higby and Anne Currier.
After extensive world travel, Kim spent 9 years in Italy; from 2001 through 2005 she engaged in post-grad study of realist art, drawing, and sculpting at the Florence Academy of Art, later staying in the towns of Pietrasanta and Carrara to learn the techniques of bronze casting and stone carving.
She now divides her time between Rochester and Frassinoro, Italy, exhibiting work in public and private venues and accepting commissions in the United States, Australia, and Europe.
