Stitch Buffalo

Stitch Buffalo provides opportunities for meaningful cultural exchange and economic empowerment through the textile arts for refugee women in Buffalo. The organization strives to empower these women by providing opportunity for them to create and sell handcrafted textile goods locally. The community of over 55 women from Bhutan, Burma, Nepal, Thailand and Angola meet weekly to form a Refugee Women’s Workshop, during which they build a support network, honor their cultural heritage and uphold textile traditions while also learning contemporary textile design methods. The carefully crafted textile goods produced in these workshops provide meaningful work and improve financial opportunities for the women while also promoting sustainability, environmental stewardship, cross cultural interaction and advance social justice and equity for refugee women throughout the larger Buffalo community.
