A moment captured in the deep of winter. A veritable rainbow of colors warms a cold snowy Buffalo day, calling forth Spring with buoyant brush strokes. The composition and texture of this painting reflect the artist’s joy. At age 88, Ethelyn Pratt Cobb said, “Art is such a blessing. It is something positive, something that gives meaning. I’m still finding myself (through art); it takes a lifetime to find out who you are.” A prolific painter to the end of her life, Cobb showed her work at the Sisti Gallery, Chautauqua Institute and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
For Children:
Snow day! A rainbow of colors: red, orange, yellow, green, and blue warm up a cold, snowy Buffalo day. Don’t you want to go and play? What colors feel warm? Which tones feel cool? How would you paint your wintery landscape?
Ethelyn started painting on her 8th birthday and painted throughout her whole life. When she was 88 years old, she said that art gave meaning to her life. Over time she discovered that she was truly an artist. How will you express yourself?
