         A Sunshiny beautiful day.
Working in studio on “The Black-Walnut Bed” – I am preparing to redraw and start a new picture of this, mounting new paper. –
                           Nov 9 –
      A great blanket of cloud hangs over the earth this morning – except low in the south-east, where the intermittent sun lights up the horizon which has the appearance of the outside world as viewed from an immense cave, To the north, north-west the clouds deepened in color to an ominous blue-gray, against which the houses, lit up from the south, stand out in startling relief. –The effect seemed to epitomize the whole drama of the retreat of summer and autumn on the heels of the sun, and the black north of winter, about to engulf the land.
P.M. C. to B’s – B + S to Buffalo to a movie. About 2:30, Jim brought the puppy over – a beautiful brown and white animal, with huge legs + paws, and all the adorable helplessness and winsomeness that puppies have. From then on there has been no peace.
After much discussion, it was decided that “Pal” as he was christened, was to sleep in Arthur’s room.
Snow fell at times all day, but it was not until evening that it stayed on the ground, and came down in earnest.
