48.  The visit with M.A. + M. not so satisfactory - one or several of the house-girls in most of the time.[i]

     Evening - play Schubert Symphony #9.

     Carl Schaefer + Caven Atkins from Toronto -[ii]

     Arrive at noon - after finish lunch to Studio. I enjoyed their visit a lot.

                   Mar 28 - (Saturday)

     P.M. all of us to great Lakes - "Mister V" and "Kid Glove Killer"[iii]

                   Mar. 30 - Monday -

     A half-cloudy misty morning, following yesterdays soggy snow-fall. On all sides the snow melting with delicious sound of dripping on the wet earth. Songsparrows in full chorus.

     A drop of dew reflecting on the sun - by moving my head in various directions I can turn the bright sparkle to the various colors of the spectrum - the most noticeable being red, yellow, green and blue.

     Start painting of the Carolina Poplar branches + Smedja's sheds which I have been contemplating for some time. I did get far however, for the unusual technical problems, combined with the lack of continuous sunshine completely frustrated me. At one time when the northeast sky, back of the poplar, was heavy with dark blue-gray cloud, a momentary gleam of sunlight on the waxy branches was very beautiful.

     However, I got a start, and the picture "feels" worth while.
