Join the curatorial team of the "Art Barge" for a community conversation at the Burchfield Penney.
Trans Empire Canal Corporation [TECCORP] and the Burchfield Penney Art Center are pleased to announce a multi-year project “Cultural Commodities: As Exhibition In Four Phases.” We are purposing art as a tool to examine the complex ways the Erie Canal has shaped and continues to shape our political, cultural and economic realities.
The project will commence with “Phase I: Displacement” aka "barge prototype"an exhibition installed at the Burchfield Penney Art Center from July to October 2014. Phase I will inform the following stages: Phase II: Replacement Buffalo to Brooklyn, Phase III: Replacement Brooklyn to Buffalo, and Phase IV: Placement Harboring Canalside. These later phases will occur on a full scale barge.
