Cool Burnin': The Chet Baker Project, featuring Buffalo area mainstays Tim Clarke, Alec Dube, Greg Millar, Ed Croft, and Devin Kelly aims to further examine this often times overlooked period of Baker's career, focusing on subtlety and dynamics, and finding the lesser occupied corners of these classic tunes.
In a career that spanned over 35 years, Chet Baker sought serenity from his turbulent personal life through the beauty of song. This juxtaposition has added Baker's legend in the decades since his mysterious death. Chet's later years were spent delving further into his penchant for simple melodic beauty, and introspective soloing, usually in the company of drum-less trios and quartets featuring European jazz giants like Niels Henning Orsted Pederson, Philip Catherine, and Wolfgang Lackerschmid. In his final interview Baker said "I've been playing eight years without drums, and I would call that more "cool" than any other kind of jazz."
