Hosted Event | Meet the Candidates Forum Presented by the Buffalo Association of Black Journalists

The Democratic New York State Senate and Assembly candidates will debate the issues in a “Meet the Candidates” forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, August 19 in the Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Auditorium at the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
The Senate candidates will debate at 7 p.m. and the Assembly candidates will debate at 8 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Buffalo Association of Black Journalists. The Burchfield Penney Art Center is a co-sponsor. Association members will quiz the candidates on a number of topics, including education and crime, economic development and diversity on area construction projects.
Audience members also will be able to submit questions for the candidates to answer at the free public forum.
Representing the 63rd district, Sen. Tim Kennedy (D) is being challenged by Erie County Legislature Minority Leader Betty Jean Grant (D).
In the 141st district, Assemblywoman Crystal D. Peoples-Stokes (D) is being challenged by former State Sen. Antoine M. Thompson (D). Veronica Nichols (D) is also an invited candidate in the 141st district race.
The BABJ is a nonprofit organization dedicated to achieving more balanced media coverage of minorities and increasing minority representation at both the staff and management levels in Western New York newsrooms.
