The 2nd Buffalo Food Policy Summit builds on the many successes of the 1st Buffalo Food Policy Summit convened in 2011 by The Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities – Buffalo Partnership. The partnership works to improve the health of Buffalonians through policy and environmental changes. One notable success is the creation in May 2013 of the Food Policy Council (FPC) of Buffalo and Erie County to act as an advisory body that provides expert guidance on policies to strengthen the local food system. The Food Policy Council is a sub-commission of the Erie County Board of Health.
Two programs, both open to the public, are hosted at the Burchfield Penney has part of this City-wide event:
The 2nd Food Policy Summit – Info Fair and Public Forum will explore ideas related to how Erie County residents can leverage the Food Policy Council of Buffalo and Erie County for changes in the local Food System. Attendees will meet Erie County food advocates and entrepreneurs in a casual and festive setting. The event will close with a short presentation by food policy advocates and public presentation of the newly formed Food Policy Council of Buffalo and Erie County.
