A presentation by Stephen Vermette, Ph.D., Professor of Geography and Planning, SUNY Buffalo State
Free with museum admission
Climatologist and SUNY Buffalo State professor Stephen Vermette, Ph.D. returns to the Burchfield Penney Art Center with new perspectives on Charles E. Burchfield’s artwork that portray the fickle transition of seasons, as well as observations on 21st-century Western New York weather and climate. In 2011, Dr. Vermette worked with curator Tullis Johnson on Charles E. Burchfield: Weather Event, an exhibition that presented the dramatic and complex natural phenomenon chronicled in more than fifty years of Burchfield’s writings, drawings and paintings. He contributed to the exhibition catalogue and moderated a panel discussion about “Lake Effect: How it Defines Buffalo’s Weather and Climate.” Art and science unite once again to reflect our shared experiences.
