Here Come The Comets was founded by visual artist/musician Todd Lesmeister in the fall of 2006 when he recruited the accomplished rhythm section of drummer Jeff Schaller and bass player Blaine Toney and lifelong friend and guitarist Steve Ryder to record a collection of post apocalyptic love songs that he had written within a nine month span.
After spending over a year in the studio meticulously crafting the ten song project, the band finally released Falling Anvils: Love Songs for the Doomed and Secretly Happy in the spring of 2008. The album is a landscape of layered melodies and guitar textures that weaves between the emotional sci-fi narrative of a love that endures through crashing meteors, drug addiction, supernatural events and the sad, sweetness of death. The sound is soft, sonic, subtle to bombastic and morphs from space rock to alt country to glam punk boogie woogie to minimalist piano compositions. After its release in the spring of 2008, the album gained critical attention locally by music critic Jeff Miers of The Buffalo News and was named best album by SPREE Magazine. Here Come the Comets will release a new five song EP entitled That Good Old Fashioned Sin Volume One at RendezBlue.
