In 1964 Charles E. Burchfield wrote in his journals that he wanted "a circular museum" that would be large enough to house his season transitions. The artist's wishes were finally realized in this exhibition. The perennial season cycle included a circular display of some of his favorite paintings of winter, spring, summer and fall as he desired. His season transition painting, Oncoming Spring, was also included.
