June 28 – Thursday –

Mart’s birthday –

A clear sunny day, growing progressively more humid as the day wears on. We went to Cream’s for breakfast; on the way back stopped to pick up Peggy who was to help Bertha today –
The three of us lunched under the willow tree on wennies from the Hut, plus fresh fruit and vegetables.

In the studio editing more of the early journals. I found Vol. 8 to be missing.

Late P.M. – John called to chat about various matters –

To Cream’s for supper – then for a drive in the clear horizon-sun light – southward to east of Hamburg – over Zimmerman Rd etc. – home by the Cole Rd.

Evening music – a collection of Kreisler pieces by Ricci –
Part of the Beethoven Ninth (The first three movements in fact.) So far as it is humanly possible this seems the perfect “Ninth” both as to the interpretation and sound reproduction – I feel as though, in many ways I am hearing it for the first time.
