Oct. 1 – Tuesday –
A fine sunny day.
A.M. Visit from Tom Spence from Lorraine, Wyoming – (He is working for a master’s degree in art and has chosen my work for his thesis – He had called Mart on Sunday, who tried to discourage him – but he said his brother (Gerry) was going to fly him east anyway – They arrived Monday P.M. – Mart thought after all I should grant him an interview, and urged Hank to try to persuade (which was not hard.)
He proved to be an interesting young man – he is married with two children – teaches, and also has a small milk route to eke out his income – I was glad I agreed to talk to him – after the interview I showed him the studio. –
[It turned out later that, he, his brother + sister-in-law took Mart + Hank to dinner, and they talked until 3:00 A.M.]
Evening - visit from the [name unintelligible] – they arrived about 5:30 – From beginning to end, it was a most happy get-together – never did our conversation languish for a moment. We took them to the Steak-Hut – where fillet-mignon dinners amazed them –
A good session in the studio –
