Nov 6, 1919

I planted crocus bulbs tonight, it seemed strange that these little dry bulbs planted in the cold black earth, (with the Indian summer haze floating in the chilly air about me) would next spring come up flowers after the first March thunderstorm

He looked with the black sparkling eyes of six years into my fishy pale eyes of a sleepless night –
