Democratic state candidates to debate issues Tuesday

The Democratic State Senate and Assembly candidates will debate the issues in a “Meet the Candidates” forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the auditorium at the Burchfield Penney Art Center, 1300 Elmwood Ave.
The Senate candidates will debate at 7 p.m. and the Assembly candidates will debate at 8 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Buffalo Association of Black Journalists and Burchfield Penney. Association members will quiz the candidates on a number of topics, including education, crime, economic development and diversity on area construction projects. Audience members also will be able to submit questions for the candidates to answer at the free public forum.
Representing the 63rd District, Sen. Timothy M. Kennedy is being challenged by Erie County Legislature Minority Leader Betty Jean Grant.
In the 141st District, Assemblywoman Crystal D. Peoples-Stokes is being challenged by former State Sen. Antoine M. Thompson and Veronica Nichols.
The journalists association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to achieving more balanced media coverage of minorities and increasing minority representation at both the staff and management levels in Western New York newsrooms.
