The Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State College, known for its collection of works by acclaimed watercolorist Charles E. Burchfield (1893-1967) and recognized by the New York Times as one of the Top-50 Small Museums, has branched out into the Arts and Crafts Movement for its latest exhibition Well Crafted.
On view through March 24th, 2013, Well Crafted juxtaposes the old and the new of the Arts and Crafts Movement in vignettes. Featured Arts and Crafts manufacturers include Karl Kipp, Charles Rohlfs, Heintz Art Metal and Roycroft. Contemporary artists in the exhibition are Carolyn Dilcher, Ann Perry-Smith, Janice McDuffie, Linda Michalek, Barry Yavener, Frank Glapa, Tom Pafk, Tom Kegler, Yvonne M. Stoklosa and Karl Heerdt.
We're also proud to mention that two of these artists, Frank Glapa (see top photo) and Yvonne Stoklosa (see bottom photo), are exhibitors in our upcoming National Arts & Crafts Conference at the Grove Park Inn this coming February 22nd-24th.
The opening reception of Well Crafted saw a large crowd of museum goers, Arts and Crafts enthusiasts of the Upstate New York area as well as friends and family members of the featured contemporary artists. "Even some of our out of state friends came to help make it a special evening!" mentioned Frank Glapa. "Bill Menshon [Burchfield Penney Curator] did an incredible job pairing the old with the new." continued Glapa. "It's a wonderful exhibition and a must see if you're in the area."
