M&T Second Friday at the Burchfield Penney
Friday, February 14, 2014 from 5:30 pm

For February M&T Second Friday, the Burchfield Penney celebrates the opening of seven new exhibitions from 5:30-7:30 pm: Biological Regionalism: Alberto Rey, Bridging the Great Divide, Brian Milbrand: Melt, Fly Fishing: A Celebration of the Stream, Charles Burchfield: Water, Family Tree and Hydro-graphic.

At 7:00 pm, the Burchfield Penney Writers and Poets Series returns for the spring 2014 semester with a reading by Perry Nicholas and Robert Baxter.

A drop-in art making workshop will take place in the studio classroom from 5:30 – 7:30 pm.

Crisis! A Film Series Returns to the Burchfield Penney
Bonfire of the Vanities Begins the Series on Thursday, January 30

Using classic and contemporary films and expert commentators, Crisis! engages the community in a discussion about the global economic crisis. Each screening begins with a panel discussion at 6 pm which includes experts from Buffalo State’s faculty and the community followed by the film at 6:30 pm. Audiences can expect a broad spectrum of views, lively discussion and debate. Films featured include: Bonfire of the Vanities (Jan. 30), The Smartest Guys in the Room (Feb. 20), Frontline: Money, Power & Wall Street (Feb. 27), Inside Job (Mar. 6), Margin Call (Mar. 13), Client #9 (Mar. 20), The Madoff Affair ( Apr. 3), Capitalism: A Love Story (Apr. 17), and Inequality for All (Apr. 24). The Crisis! Film series are free and open to the public.

 

International Center for Watercolor Classes Begin February 2

Workshops, classes and discussions take place on Sundays and Fridays from February-May as part of the International Center for Watercolor. The new schedule begins Sunday, February 2 with a workshop with Rita Argen Auerbach. Friday lunchtime talks resume on Friday, February 7 at 12:30 with My Appreciation of Watercolor A Personal View: The Value of Value with Ric Feeney. Head of Collections/the Charles Cary Rumsey curator at the Burchfield Penney will join art conservator Christina Taylor on Thursday, February 6 at 7 pm for a discussion on the restoration of New Moon #10.
