The Buffalo Chamber Players collaborate with the Burchfield Penney in a unique concert program complementing In The Fullness Of Time, Painting In Buffalo 1832-1972, an exhibition on view in the Center's East Gallery focusing on painters whose work had a lasting impact on the art and artists of the region.
The ensemble’s concert program explores composers with musical connections to Buffalo and Western New York, including George Crumb, Antonín Dvořák, Morton Feldman, Caroline Mallonee, and Roland E. Martin. The evening's music begins in the Center's auditorium and concludes in the East Gallery.
The concert includes:
George Crumb Black Angels: Thirteen Images from the Dark Land for electric string quartet
As Buffalo’s preeminent chamber music ensemble, the Buffalo Chamber Players presents innovative music programs performed by our region’s finest musicians. The ensemble’s mission is to challenge, redefine and enhance the public’s perception of chamber music while promoting the city of Buffalo as an inspiring place to live, work, and play.
Recent projects include Western New York premieres of chamber operas by composers John Blow, John Harbison and Roland E. Martin, concert programs incorporating the works of Buffalo visual artists Gerald Mead, Catherine Burchfield Parker, Mark Lavatelli and Martha Visser’t Hooft, and collaborations with area organizations including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library and CEPA Gallery.
Formed in 2007 by Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra violist Janz Castelo, the group is comprised of members of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and other distinguished area musicians. The group’s critically acclaimed concerts explore both historical chamber music masterworks and contemporary works by living composers.
VETERANS ART ACADEMY
The Veterans Art Academy strives to be beneficial in mind and spirit to those who participate. It is a source for healing, a way to connect to other vets and a means to create friendships and provide support to veterans and their families.
Talking together about art provides a way to relieve stress, past and present. Making art creates a sense of accomplishment and well-being and even discovery of new talents.
This program is free and open to all vets and their families on the third Thursday of every month from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and includes gallery experiences and hands-on art making.
For information, please email Mary Kozub at email@example.com or call 716-878-3156.
OPEN CRITIQUE TOUR LED BY SCOTT PROPEACK
Often communities rely on the work of art critics to provide response to the exhibitions at galleries and museums. Primarily a singular perspective, based in knowledge and consideration of a moment, this tradition is both based on communities with robust writing and an astute writer. We recognize that there are as many ways to consider an object or an entire exhibition as there are backgrounds for the members of our community. As an organization with the goal of working with all our public, we feel that there needs to be a place for the community’s voice to be heard. Free with gallery admission.
