Celebrating Art Deco and the Art of Alexander Levy

Saturday, November 15

William Gerdts, Ph.D. wrote in his essay for the book published in conjunction with the exhibition of Alexander O. Levy: American Artist, Art Deco Painter: “A strong attachment to Art Deco characterizes only a portion of Alexander Levy’s achievement, but the underlying principles which guided him into its exploration, a sense of and belief in his art as a creative rather than purely naturalistic expression, is inherent in all his painting.”

2 pm   Screening: Metropolis (1927): Metropolis is one of the great achievements of the silent era, a work so audacious in its vision and so angry in its message that it is, if anything, more powerful today than when it was made."The British Film Institute called Metropolis the 35th greatest film of all time.
