Ron Wofford

Born: Buffalo, NY, US

Ron Wofford is a Buffalo-based photographer, writer, and communications professional who has been active in the community's cultural scene for decades. An early participant in the pioneering institution Media Study Buffalo, he served as production director for Sunship Communications, an early provider of public access television based on the city's East Side in the 1970s and 80s. He also worked as a producer, reporter, and on-air host of programs on WIVB, WKBW, and WGR TV and as a freelance music and drama critic for area newspapers. Before his retirement, he was active for many years with the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA). His work as a photographer was recently featured in the Burchfield Penney's 50th anniversary exhibition and in an exhibition at the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center (NACC) for the 2017 Black History Month. Reflecting on the artist's career, Burchfield Penney director Anthony Bannon noted, "Ron Wofford was engaged in so many media when Buffalo needed him most and remains a catalyst for the constant rebirth of our city.”
