The Creation of Charles Burchfield Center

The Charles Burchfield Center was established on December 9, 1966 when American watercolorist Charles Burchfield cut the ribbon on new exhibition space in Rockwell Hall at Buffalo State College. In 1996, concurrent with the 125th-anniversary celebration of Buffalo State College, the Burchfield Penney celebrated its 30th anniversary. This exhibition told the story of the Burchfield Penney’s early years through photographs and works from the collection.
