Side Note: Trip for installing and unveiling “Three Trees”
B- A & I to Salem for the unveiling.
A fine day, and a good trip. Art doing most of the driving. We were delayed in starting by a miscalculation on my part concerning the picture itself. This I had expected to put into the back of the car. I had already nailed it into its wooden mat, and the additional length prevented it going in. I eventually had to put it on the side, with the frame, against my wish. It was a worry all the way down.
Supper at Conneaut.
On Route 46, some flowers in a deserted orchard attracted us and we stopped. They turned out to be columbine growing wild around the site of a vanished farmhouse. Evening Bob-Whites.
Arrive at Salem after nine. Library closed. Call Mrs. Dunn. She calls one of the librarians, who opens up the library & we leave the picture there for the night. I have a feeling of excitement coming back to Salem under the circumstances.
To Mary & Dicks.
