P.M. – B & I for a drive into the country –
The full glory of September – warm and gentle S.W. wind.
Asters and goldenrod in such great profusion – I cannot get my fill of looking at them.
Hill road to Springville & then to E. Otto via the Connoisrauley Rd. – south of E. Otto –
Near the crossroad, wild hedge along the road – nondescript bushes overgrown with Virginia creeper (now blood-red) and Virgin’s Lover (in fluffy seed) – great clumps of golden-rod & asters – I thought of the Biblical “Purple, Scarlet & Gold.”
On south to Little Valley & then east on 242 to Ellicottville.
We had never been on this road before – very striking hilly country – at one spot a “bearded-grass” hill top crowned by a woods with dark interiors, and all around wooded hills, sprinkled with the first autumn colors.
Just before Ellicottville, a fine wide view over a valley to the east and a long down-hill drive.
At Ellicottville, candy & soda – the soda too strong with peppermint & the chocolate too bitter.
On east until we saw a sign pointing north “Ashford Hollow” so we set out to explore. A fine brand new road – we had no idea where we were going until we got beyond Ashford Hollow & our road connected up with the Springville – E. Otto road.
So on home –
Evening – to Abbott Theatre to see “Let’s Do It All Over Again” and “Ambush at Tomahawk Gulf-” both good entertainment.
