Oct. 11 - 13 – Trip to Phila.
Oct 11 By parlor car (P.R.R.) to Phila. Emporium & adjacent country gives me a thrill.
Lunch on train – sat with Army Major (Just ordered to return to Pacific when he thot he was “out” for good) & a business man.
To Rittenhouse Club - another member of Jury arrives at same time (Cheffetz) – We spend the evening together talking & strolling the streets – We find a common ground in our love of recorded music.
Oct. 12 - At breakfast Cheffetz revealed he was a distant relative of Heifetz (the original name Cheiffetz – the C dropped by the Heifetz because of the difficulty in America of anyone pronouncing the guttural “ch”).
The jury meeting at the Academy (I am always amazed at the hideousness and dinginess of the Academy Bldg)
Not too large or too interesting an exhibit. Very little black & white work. Our work is done by noon.
Luncheon at the Academy – a pleasant affair (Lobster)
P.M. One of the teachers (name?) drives me to the Pennsylvania Museum – I revelled (sic) in a roomful of Eakins – then to an opening of the a 4 man show of the Water Color Club –
Supper with Joe Fraser at the Art Alliance. A long talk – we too discover a mutual love for records. Later to see “Love Letters” an excellent picture.
Oct. 13 – Return trip on train. Long and tiring – Lunch – & supper. Later, sit with three soldiers just returning to Buffalo. They were in a hilarious mood.
B - Cathie & Art meeting me at train.
Sally and Red at home. I like Red at once.
