Buffalo’s Harmonia Chamber Singers are giving a concert called “Echoes of the Present,” and a few Buffalo composers are on the list. Among the “echoes of the present” will be music by Buffalo-based composers. One of them is James DesJardins, whose melodious “Winter Dream” is growing popular with school choruses. Two other composers of area renown are Alan Kryszak, guitarist and founding member of the alt rock trio REV, and Caroline Mallonee, whose music was played recently by the Buffalo Chamber Players. Their compositions join the music of such noted choral composers as Eric Whitacre, Randall Stroope and Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo.
“Echoes of the Present,” organizers say, will take you from jazz to pop to contemporary. Enjoy these new sounds at 8 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph University Church (3269 Main St.) and 7 p.m. Sunday in the Burchfield Penney Art Center (1300 Elmwood Ave.).
Admission is by free-will offering. For info, visit www.harmoniacs.org.
